Workshop with James!

December 2, 2007

This morning I was checking the mail and came across a note from James in the UK:

Just a quick line to say that I have put a video on youtube of myself learning “drunken sailor”

I get a lot of YouTube links in the mail nowadays from folks looking for feedback on a technique, so imagine my surprise when I started up James’ video and found him giving a workshop on frailing What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor.

I like James a lot. I stayed with him at the Bristol firehouse when I was in the UK and he is a wonderful guy. It is really exciting to see him taking the next step to start sharing with other people.

I’m proud of you, James!

Great lesson. What tuning are you using? I would assume open G, but I thought I noticed a capo on the fifth string.

    Thanks,

Jim — Tampa Florida — still waiting for my Christmas banjo :)

Hi Jim, Yes I am tuned Good Dog Good Bad Dog, although the batteries gave out in my tuner so I guessed the tuning on the video.
I fitted a fifth string sliding capo which is handy at jam sessions where there is no time to re-tune but it is not used on this song.

    thanks for watching.

    James.

Great job James. I certainly don’t have the nerve to post something. You did give me something else to work on and I thank you for that.

What a ride this banjo is!
