Hi Patrick,
Last month we had some friends over for my birthday and my guitar student dropped by so we had an impromptu jam session. His older brother who is sitting next to him in the video decided that he wanted to learn the banjo. So I’ve given him my old beginner banjo that I got one year ago on my birthday and started teaching him the frailing strum. The two year olds dancing in the video are our friends’ kids, and the two year old not pictured that you hear screaming is ours and not happy with mom for using the video camera.
Anyway just wanted to share a little snapshot of my birthday party with you.
6 String Banjo!
November 5, 2008
We just got in a really nice six-string banjo from Indiana Guitars.
The Indiana IB-600 features a steel-string guitar neck grafted onto a banjo pot. The end result has all the flexibility of the guitar with the cool and funky voice of the banjo. Six-string banjos have a long tradition in American folk music. They were widely used in early jazz and swing bands. Blues performers like Papa Charlie Jackson also used six-string banjos to great effect.
I am really getting a kick out of the IB-600. The instrument has a wonderful voice and the neck plays like a dream. It took a bit of setup to get everything where I wanted it, but we do this with every instrument that we ship.
