I’m OK
November 17, 2008
The doctor managed to put a tube in my left year. It hurt like hell, but my hearing is already better than it has been for months. The pressure in my ear is finally gone, so maybe tonight I will get my first good nights sleep in weeks.
On the way to Salisbury Dear Old Dad managed to squash my fingers playing with the power window buttons. Almost dislocated three of my knuckles. That actually hurt worse than having the doctor cutting around inside my ear.
Tomorrow we have to run up to Delaware to see Lowell Jacobs about some Somerset Banjo stuff so there will be no workshops.
I’ll be back on Wednesday.

Oh no! You get one ear sorted out and now you can’t play because of damaged fingers!!! Hope they are not too bruised……….

Wonderful! Sleep is good, hearing is good. Get your rest and get better. See you on Wednesday.

I can’t imagine anyone getting injured in one of those high quality cars that you two run about in
. I seem to remember needing a canary in the back of the dodge because of the fumes and DoD’s car wasn’t much better. Poor you, must have hurt like hell. Ice and Arnica are great healers. Glad the ear procedure is showing signs of working.

Great news!
I sincerely hope your hearing is fully recovered. I understand the difficulties of hearing problems because my father is totally deaf in 1 ear and has a hearing aid in the the other to be able to hear anything. He has a beautiful bass singing voice but never sings because he can’t hear what others are doing.

Good news, thanks for the update I’ve been worried. Not just for my sake, but yours and all your close friends. Now get healed up and enjoy your trip to Deleware.

Dear Old Dads are often miles cleverer than they are given credit for. Who knows how much more your ear would be hurting if you fingers weren’t. Sorta like the dentist giving you a quick kick in the shin before yanking a tooth. Spreads the load……Pleasant dreams and Happy Trails!!

Your words on using the bottleneck slide are more appropriate now that you’ve hurt your fingers. Sorry for all the pain you’ve been goin’ through – god knows you’re the least to deserve it.
Also, cheers for the many workshops i’ve been going through over the weeks!

That’s great news (well, not about the fingers) but it’s great your ear seems to be working.

Sorry for the discomfort, but progress is good and one good ear is way better than no good ears. Will be praying that progress continues and that you’ve found the right solution.

A musician getting his hearing back – that must be like a drowning man coming up for air. I hope you can make the time and feel well enough to savour it, Patrick.
All the best

Yes, I too am thankfull for the successfull surgery you had.
Hearing is such a wonderfull gift, and being a Dad with a deaf son I all too much understand your struggles.
For DoD and Patrick, my best wishes for continued success.
Patrick, it wasn’t your fault about your fingers. DoD only caution not to step in anything soft. He never taught you to watch our for mechanical thingy-boppers.
