Banjo Forum Playset

November 20, 2008

Archie McPhee, the place where we stock up on essential office supplies like rubber chickens and propeller beanies has a fun new item in stock called The Angry Mob Playset.

Each set includes nine 2″ to 3″ tall, hard vinyl villagers wielding a variety of weapons for them to wave menacingly at the object of their disdain.

As soon as Dear Old Dad and I saw this we laughed out loud and said – at exactly the same time – “It’s like a mini version of The Banjo Hangout!”

Only Mostly Deaf

November 20, 2008

Well, the tube in my ear seems to be working. I have made the transition from all deaf to only mostly deaf.

What’s the difference? Well, it’s kind of like being mostly dead in The Princess Bride:

Miracle Max: See, there’s a big difference between mostly dead, and all dead. Now, mostly dead: he’s slightly alive. All dead: well, with all dead, there’s usually only one thing that you can do.

Inigo: What’s that?

Miracle Max: Go through his clothes and look for loose change.

In other words, my hearing is still pretty terrible, but it is a lot better than it has been since August. Best of all, the pressure in my ear is gone and I can finally get some sleep at night.

Thank you to all of the people who have been sending me get well notes and offering support. It meant more than I have the words to express.

I am taking the rest of the week off. Workshops will start up again next week. I am going to keep the combo format going with The Daily Frail and Crisfield Guitar in the same video. I will also be mixing in some harmonica and ukulele stuff from time to time.

One more thing before I go. After posting pictures of my Dobro 33D the other day we got some notes asking for pictures of my Dobro 33H.

I have been playing this guitar for as long as I have been playing the guitar, and this old beast is showing her age. The finish is worn off the neck, the tuners were replaced with banjo pegs ages ago and there is a big dent in the lower bout where I dropped it and broke my big toe!

Thats all for now. Off to work on finishing up the gospel songbook. See you on Monday.
