Hoot Today

July 18, 2009

5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mariners UME Fellowship Hall. We use the first hour for informal lessons/workshops and the rest of the time is an open jam. This is a great little event. Lots of coffee and church-lady bake sale stuff.Bring the whole family. Children are welcome – in fact, every kid gets a harmonica.

Cripple Creek!

Hi Patrick,

Long time reader, first time contributer. I finally figured out how to get a movie file uploaded to “You Tube” so I thought I’d pass along my first attempt at trying to record myself playing for the camera. I’ve still yet to master this technique, as the sound is shaky and my heads cut off, but I think the banjo comes across OK. Thanks for all the great lessons and I look forward to reading your blog everyday.

This is a version of Cripple Creek that I like to play.

Had music lesson today and recorded a bit of audio of my teacher, Stan Gee.
This is his impromptu performance of Gospel Ship on his 1919 Gibson 5 string. Fantastic (including the mistakes).

Stan runs lessons, workshops, and music evenings at a Folk Club in Saltburn, North Yorkshire. www.stangee.co.uk

My friend  Ytske in Sweden sent me an audio file for the first time ever.  I am so proud of her!

Here she is playing a Swedish Waltz on the fiddle.
