Five Days and Counting

August 20, 2009

Fred from Baltimore and a few other folks have asked about meeting us at Johns Hopkins. There won’t be much going on, but we might be able to jam in the waiting room or something like that.

Heck, Fred was playing his banjo in the waiting room the day I had my surgery, so it makes sense to be picking when they activate my BAHA!

Here are the details:

My appointment is at 9:00 AM on August 25th at the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center.  We’ll be in the audiology department on the 6th floor.  According to the information packet I got from the hospital, my audiologist will be Mariah Menichino.

Dear Old Dad and I are also going to be dropping off a Smith Island cake for the folks in the otology department as a thank you for taking such good care of me.

Now, the big day is August 25th, but the party really doesn’t start until September 17th at the Fall Folk Musicians Retreat. I just got word that Doug from Dallas and Hallelujah Don are both coming to the event joining James the Fireman,  Camilio & my brother Carlos, Kelly from Chicago, Marissa from New York and dozens more of my friends and students all coming together to make music and celebrate the activation of my BAHA implant.

Note to folks in the Midwest: Kelly has room to give somebody a ride. Contact me for more information.

I am planning on giving a workshop on stage presence at the Fall Retreat. Dear Old Dad and I will cover talking to the camera, getting rid over verbal placeholders and presenting ideas clearly to an audience you can’t see. It’s going to be fun, and I can’t wait to see what kind of workshops everybody else puts together.

We do have one request: if you are driving to the Retreat we sure could use extra cots, air mattresses or anything else folks can sleep on. With so many people coming we don’t have enough bunks, and we sure don’t want to turn anybody away!
