Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich

We had a huge dinner and we had two kinds of pie and Smith Island cake. We watched football (American football), had a nap and raided the refrigerator to make Thanksgiving leftover turkey sandwiches.

Holidays don’t get much more joyful.

Families don’t get much more thankful.

Thanksgiving 2009 was a good one.

Good night and God bless!

Arthur in Washington writes:

A most Joyous Thanksgiving to you folks!
I couldn’t get down the road to see my family this year because of the demands of my work. They raised a glass I sang them this song.
Not a good technical rendition but valuable one day for it’s historic importance. ;-) Take care and God Bless!

Marissa has posted a Thanksgiving banjo podcast!

In other news, Marissa sent us a note with exciting news about an upcoming performance.

Marissa writes:

I have a gig next week at our local tavern Pete’s in Bronxville, NY 1820 Park Place. . I went with Mom and Dad for dinner last week as usual and ran in to this gentleman who was playing his guitar and singing sixties folk songs. He asked me  if I wanted to play with him in two weeks. I was honored and we are in the process of working out a setlist. His name is Bobby and his band is a Beatles cover band of sorts called Bobby and the Team Mates. I just thought I would share this with you all, if it weren’t for the retreat, I would never have had the courage to try this new endeavor, it’s been a long time since I’ve played live. I will have to introduce them to that spectacular banjo Pat Trudy as well. Bring banjo pickin’ to Bronxville. Well, thank you again for continuing to inspire me. Happy to Thanksgiving to you all.

That is wonderful news! I hope all of our friends in New York will make the trip out to catch the show!

Cake and Pie

November 26, 2009

mom & dad

We decided to share our Smith Island pumpkin spice cake with our neighbors. As I write this, Mom and Dear old Dad are running up and down Potomac street handing out slices of cake. The turkey is in the oven, the birds are singing and it is just a wonderful day.

Thanksgiving Fog

November 26, 2009

Brick Kiln

Thanksgiving morning found Crisfield wrapped up in a heavy blanket of fog. I took a long walk down to the docks with my camera and had a wonderful time.

Best of all, CC stopped me as I was walking out the door and dropped off a pumpkin spice Smith Island cake fresh off the boat!

You read that right. A Thanksgiving ten-layer pumpkin spice Smith Island cake!

This afternoon my folks and I will sit down to a huge turkey dinner, watch a little football, have two kinds of pie (pumpkin and apple mincemeat), have a slice of ten-layer pumpkin spice Smith Island cake, watch a little football and through it all give thanks for all of the wonderful things that happened over the past year while looking forward with great anticipation to the adventures waiting for us in 2010.
