Oyster Stew!
February 26, 2010
John from The Dream Catcher stopped by the house with a container of freshly shucked oysters. I was thrilled. What a wonderful gift! Oystering in Crisfield is incredibly hard and dangerous work and I was honored that he was willing to share with me.
Today I made a big pot of oyster stew to share with the neighbors. It’s easy to make and perfect for cold a cold and stormy Friday afternoon.
Thanks to John for such a wonderful gift!
- Fresh oysters from the Chesapeake Bay!
- Start out by cooking some celery and green onion in a little butter
- add the celery, onion and butter to a pan of half and half
- add raw oysters to the broth
- once the oysters curl at the edges your stew is ready to eat!
John has invited me to spend a day on his work boat this summer so I can get some pictures of how crab fishing is done here in Crisfield. That is going to be a lot of fun!
