The first day of music classes is winding down here at Camp Adventure.
Carlos, Paul, Don and Keo did a fantastic job. I am very proud of them.

Hi Patrick,
Got another one to throw over the fence. I’ve been workin’ on this one for a while by Justin Townes Earle (Steve Earle’s son), Lone Pine Hill. There’s a line in there that made me think of your new home:Now I signed up back in ’61
I’m an Army of Virginia man
I been from Manassas to Monocacy all the way to Sayler’s Creek
fightin’ for my homelandOf course, I always mess the names up, so Lord knows if I got it right…
I should go on a road trip and visit sometime, see a bit of history and the new institute!
If anyone’s wondering how I did the melody, I’m alternating hammer-ons in Am on strings 4, 3, 2, and back to 3 before going to Em.

Patrick,
I just want you to know that your ‘Songs for Sunday‘ hymn book has got me back playing the banjo again and really making some real progress and not only that, but it sounds like real music! I’ve bought all the other books about learning to “play from scratch” etc. and no one else has helped me more than you and your method and books. Thank you very much for all that you do for those of us that want to learn the “craft”
Also best wishes and happiness for Amy and yourself.

Ma gawd is it hot in the UK today? Yes siree it is. Sorry, this heat, and I’m reading a biography of the Carter Family at the moment ‘Will You Miss Me When I’m Gone’ (it’s very good), anyway it’s made me come over all Appalachian. So here’s Soldier’s Joy. Enjoy it and you’re free to share:
